It’s been a while since we’ve seen a pack of bitches roll through (well-spoken bitches, at that!), but here you have it, folks: Your Tuesday P.O.B. I like this submission because it’s multi-layered. Each comment has its place in the thread. Obviously Molly is the only person I’d go for a smoothie with, but what’s being said here is more than just your average smug mommy rant. It’s a smug mommy rant specifically about people who have fewer than four children.
I wouldn’t necessarily tell a stranger who’s shopping with her children that she has her hands full, BUT ultimately that statement is one of admiration*. Obviously the “lady” at Old Navy meant it as a compliment along the lines of, “Being a mom is hard, and look at you shopping with two little ones!” How ironic that so many of the submissions I receive involve women declaring themselves superheroes for being moms, and yet Kate hopped onto Facebook to berate someone for essentially commending her on being a hard-working parent. WTF.
Some people don’t have children to “find themselves,” and there’s nothing wrong with searching for purpose after becoming a parent. Trying to find yourself doesn’t make you a shitty parent, much like wanting a small family doesn’t make you a shitty person. I hate to break it to Brenda, but most people don’t need anyone to pity their life decisions. So she and her friends can take their bigass family-having elitist pity party down to Chuck E. Cheese and have a round of apple juice and buffalo wings on me, ‘cause their attitudes make me pity them!
*’Admiration’ meaning “I don’t know how you do it.”
